None Dictation (Revise ‘i-e’ family):
The school is having a fun sports evening. Frank is fit. He likes to go running, so he is going to compete in the running. Jack thinks Frank is a good athlete. Jack and his wife will drive to see the race. Pete and Steve will be in the race as well. Jack hopes that Frank wins. The race starts. Pete runs well. Jack waves at Frank. Frank smiles back. Frank wins and Jack gives him a slice of his best cake. Teaching Tips:
· There might be some confusion as to when to use which combination of letters for the sound /ay/, we now have 'ay', 'a-e' and 'ai' all standing for the same sound. The important thing is to practice the words regularly, so that the pupil memorises the list of words containing each sound. Note - not the spellings, as they should be learnt mainly phonetically of course, but just to help the pupil remember which words go in which family. Pin them up around the house somewhere can they be seen frequently. Give frequent tests, for example, reading a list of words and asking the pupil to identify which sound family they belong to, or ask the pupil to remember as many words in a given family as possible. · In this dictation w have three ‘scenes’. Tell the child to listen out for them: The introduction about the race; at the race, and the conclusion of the race. |
