Level 2 - Spelling with Confidence

Some pupils will begin their journey through Reading Made Simple at Level 2.
Others will come here on completion of Level 1
Please see the spelling placement test to know where to begin.
  • Level 2 will consolidate skills learned in Level 1.
  • Level 2 adds another layer, teaching more words in each sound family and more odd words, as well as extending the child's knowledge of grammar and his/her ability to write longer paragraphs, including the use of speech marks and question marks.
  • ​The teaching routine is basically the same as for Level 1, though the warm up may be shorter.

I wrote this short series of books for a twelve year old pupil who had a grasp of basic phonics with some gaps and a reading age of 8 but could not read a single book with any degree of fluency. We started level 2 for spelling but he needed some simple decodable readers to remove the curve balls that had so far caused him to stumble. These books were the result. I am sharing them in case they are of use to others.
