Level 3 Reading Programme
On completion of Level 1 most children should move on to Level 3 for reading.
Our Level 3 graded reader takes pupils on to learn less common sounds in more complex words (the advanced phonics code) and widens the child's reading vocabulary, continuing in the truly systematic, Reading Made Simple style, ensuring that the child does not meet a word for which the phonic knowledge to decode has not first been learned.
Each sound is studied until the given words in the family are read fluently. A passage is then read as many times as needed until the child can read it fluently. There is no time limit as to how long to spend learning each sound. This book is suitable for both younger and older readers containing a mixture of classic poetry, hymnody, Bible verses, non-fiction and fiction reading passages. The words on each list should be studied until the child knows them and can read them easily.
Total = 26 lessons
It is not necessary to stay on a sound for a whole week.
Be guided by your child's progress and move on to the next sound when ready.

Method:
- Take a list at a time.
- Tell your pupil the common sound.
- Have the child identify the common sound in the words.
- Help the child to identify any other phonic family to which the word belongs, e.g. tongue as 'o' saying /u/.
- Help the child to chunk the word to decode it as indicated if need be.
- Have the child read the list three times in each sitting.
- Practice daily until the child can read the words easily.
