Odd words for spelling:
you Dictation (Revise ‘a-e’ family):
Frank is taking Jack to the farm in the morning. He rings Jack to wake him up. Frank bangs on his door. Jack is upset. He has dropped an egg. He had been baking a cake for Tom to thank him. Frank helps him mop it up. Jack puts the cake in a box and they jump in the truck. Teaching Tips:
· ice, nice, slice: In these words, we use the Rule of Soft c. Remind your pupil: The letter c is soft (as opposed to a hard 'c') when we see ‘ce’, ‘ci’ and ‘cy’ otherwise it is /k/. · Follow the same instructions as per a-e for adding ing/ed. · For the words tie and die, you can point out to your pupil that to change them to tied and died we simply add ‘d’. BUT, to add ‘ing’ we would change the ‘ie’ to ‘y’ to make tying and dying. These words will not be used in the dictations yet. |
