Here is the last way of making the sound 'air'. Regular reviewing of these words and reading of them will help pupils to organise them into their families. Do check that your pupil is familiar with the meanings of the words as we have some confusion words here: bear/bare: fair/fare; hare/hair etc...
Help the pupil to chunk words where necessary. Say the word and listen for the natural breaks. Remember - each chunk of a word must contain a vowel - or a vowel sound (in the case for example of words with 'y' making a vowel sound.)

Dictation for Friday
Pam woke up and saw that Sam was not in his bed. She went downstairs to look for him. She found Tom and Sam in the garden. "What are you doing out here with bare feet?" she asked Sam.
"We are bird watching," said Sam. "I am trying to learn how each bird sings."
"I had a scare when I saw your bed empty," said Pam. "I could not think where you could be!"
"It is fun hearing the birds sing in the morning," said Sam.
Tom went back inside to prepare breakfast.

Teaching tips:
- Talk about how the exclamation marks show surprise and how they must go inside the speech marks.
- Remind the pupil to begin a new line for every new person that speaks.
- Contrast fairy with Mary, scary and wary. There is no easy way to know which is which for spelling, other than by learning them. Thankfully there are not many that would be in a child's vocabulary at this level,

I searched everywhere but I could not find it!
I like to learn new things.
The earth is round, not flat.
Have you heard the news today?
Shall we have pears or peaches?
I must not tear my new dress,
The bear was growling.
My heart is beating fast.
Can you compare these two numbers?
How much is the train fare to London?
