our (er)
Level 3
We have already met 'our', but in these words, 'our' says 'er' and in some words, 'or'.
Help the pupil to chunk words where necessary. Say the word and listen for the natural breaks. They often come after the vowel sound. Remember - each chunk of a word must contain a vowel - or a vowel sound (in the case for example of words with 'y' making a vowel sound.)
Listen to the sound it makes in these words.

Dictation:
Bill received another phone call from Tom the following week. Tom's cough was better. "Can you do me a favour and come and help me pick my fruit?" Tom asked,
"Of course I can," said Bill.
So Bill made the short journey to Tom's farm the next day. Tom asked Pam and Sam to help too. Tom taught them how to pick the apples by twisting them and how to put them gently in the basket. Everyone enjoyed working together.
When the work was done, Tom let them choose an apple each.
"What colour would you like? A red one? They have a good flavour!"
"Red apples are my favourite, said Bill, although those green ones look super."
