The Report
A newspaper reporter had been at the concert. He wrote about it in the Daily News the next day.
'Last night, there was a wonderful concert in the music hall in London. The audience was delighted by the beautiful music. At the start of the concert, the audience was hopeful of a good time, but it was far better than we could have ever hoped for. One man played a powerful tune on his trumpet. At the end of the concert, the audience did not pause to applaud very loudly. One man, when asked on his way home, said, "It was delightful, really delightful!"
Hopefully, we will have another concert soon.'
Teaching tips:
Activity:
Write a newspaper report about something you have done or seen recently.

Teaching tips:
- Revise the use of capital letters for names (Daily News).
- Ensure the pupil can use quotation marks (as opposed to speech marks) before doing the dictation. Remind the pupil that s for speech marks, quotation marks are placed around the words being quoted and nothing else. Most of this dictation is a quotation. Read the whole passage through first and have the pupil tell where the quotation begins and ends.
