ay
Although this is our third way of making the sound /ay/ it is a little easier, as it is the /ay/ we find on the end of root words (i.e. before any endings are added such as saying).
Children usually find this sound a welcome break from the previous lessons as it is a bit easier.

Do not forget, nothing beats reading and reading and reading - putting it all into practice. Hopefully, if you have gone at a speed suitable for your student s/he should not be overwhelmed, but have a fairly secure knowledge of each of the sounds so far. How much practice is needed at each stage depends on each individual child. Knowing the sounds by rote is the key, then learning to see them in words is next. If the child is still very focused on 'decoding' when s/he is reading, don't panic.. expression and comprehension will come as it gets easier.
When reading together, let your child point, if need be and run your finger along the top of the print, stopping if the child needs to decode or says a word incorrectly.
let your child read first and then occasionally, you read it back to him/her with expression, so that s/he can hear how to make his/her reading come alive.
