W Rules
I wouldn't make a flashcard for these as it might be too confusing. Just practice the words and if your student says 'a' instead of 'o' gently remind saying:
Say:
"Naughty 'w' turns 'a' to 'o'. Whenever you see the letter 'w' next to the letter 'a', make the 'a' say 'o' instead."
You may find your pupil wanting to make all 'a's into 'o' sounds - even words you thought were secure. This will be temporary - don't panic. Remember that children often wobble as they absorb new information so just gently remind your pupil that it is only when 'w' is next to 'a' that we say 'o'. Hopefully you have enough experience of your pupil now to be able to ease him/her over any difficulties.

June looks out of the window and enjoys seeing the two big men playing in the snow. They are just like two big boys, she thinks. I will not spoil the fun. Tom sees her at the window and throws a snowball at her. She shuts the window just in time.

Final Level 1 Assessment Dictation:
Tom grew up on the farm. He loves it. In the summer Tom enjoys watching the birds as they fly in the sky and wash in his bird bath. The swallows make a nest in his barn. He likes to feed the swans and the ducks. He loves his sheep and his cows too. At night he likes to stand in the yard to see the moon. He likes to eat the cakes his wife makes in the farm house. Tom is very happy.

After the dictation, take time to assess your child's writing.
Assess:
- Spelling: In this piece of writing you can see that most words are correctly spelt, except 'sumer' and 'swim'. As I know the child, I knew that 'sim' was an error of oversight as the child usually had no difficulties with such words. The word sumer was more indicative; it showed that the rule of doubling was not yet secure, so we revised it before we started Level 2 (where it will be met again quite soon).
- Punctuation: This was all correct. Had it not have been we would have edited in the usual way and I would have made note to give extra practice, be it of placing full stops correctly or remembering the capital letters.
- Handwriting: Be critical: note what needs working on - there will always be something. This child struggles with uneven letter/word spacing and sticks not being parallel to each other. The learning of handwriting is ongoing, but it needs specific instruction, so take time to work on these things as your child continues to write.
