nk
For reading only.
In this lesson, we will practice reading words ending in 'nk'. Some children have difficulty with them and this lesson is here for those pupils.
In these words, the consonant blend, /nk/ is at the end of the word.
If the childcan recognise /nk/ together rather than sounding out /n/ /k/ it may help him/her to sound out more easily; b-a-nk.
Others may be happy to sound out four sounds: b-a-n-k.
Find what works for your pupil.
Keep to the normal lesson time, but spend the writing time practising handwriting and revising previously taught families.
Follow the weekly teaching programme as outlined here.

Dictation: Revise the /ch/ sound
Tom has a tent on the sand. The wind sent the tent into the pond. He must mend the tent.
Teaching notes:
Monday: Teach as before. Note:
· This lesson we have another set of words which all have consonant blends with the sound /n/ at the end of words. Some children will again been confidently sounding out these words to read and spell in Level 0, so these children may miss out this lesson as well, if you feel this is right for your child. If in doubt, do it as before.
· As for the previous lesson, help the child to hear and feel the /n/ sound by stretching the word and holding on to it: b-a-nnn-k.
· Put the words into sentences so that the meanings are clear.
Tuesday to Thursday Teaching Notes:
· Once more, if this lesson is difficult for your pupil, spend the week practising, but move on, being ready to support the child whenever the /nk/ sound is met in future words. We will be practising such words again in Level 2, so do not let it hold the child back.
· Continue to revise and help with sentence construction.
