Dictation:
Tom is in the farmyard. It is dark. He can see the moon and the stars. He feeds the sheep in the barn and gets into bed.
Teaching notes:
· I explain to children that they need to ‘speak in a posh voice’ as they learn this family. Make a beautifully rounded ‘or’ sound in each word. Look in a mirror and see the shape made by the mouth.
· Study horse. It has an ‘e’ to look pretty.
· Note that the word morning has both /or/ and /ing/. Break it into two parts: morn-ing.
· The words come and some are in a sound family of their own, one which we will learn later in Level 1. In these words, the ‘o’ is saying /u/. However, as these words are so commonly met, it is best if for now they are learnt as odd words on flashcards for reading.
