ing
Follow the weekly teaching programme as outlined here.
'ing' is a common ending. It will help children greatly if they can learn to spot it on the end of words as they are reading, so that they do not attempt to sound it out, and hear it ont he end of words when spelling them.
We will keep the spelling list simple at this stage, learning to add 'ing' to words where doubling is not required.
For reading, the addition of this ending widens the pupil's vocabulary greatly.
Here are just a few words for practice. There are many more that you can make with the words your student can already read and spell - but keep away from doubling the consonant.
Do help your child to separate the root word from the ending: go ing: jump ing: look ing.
Otherwise they may miss letters out in their rush to add 'ing'.
Note: If your child finds spelling these words difficult, do not worry - we will come back to 'ing' later as we add 'ing' to further words throughout the programme.
You can miss out this dictation if you feel it would be too much for your pupil and it will not affect his/her progress.
Focus on reading the words instead.

Odd Word for reading: says
Dictation:
It has been a long week. Tom sings a song as he sits in the sun. The dog jumps on the swing.
Teaching notes:
Monday: Teach as before. Note:
· This lesson teaches pupils to use /ing/ as an ending, rather than teaching a new sound.
· In level 1 spelling we will only add /ing/ to words that do not need the doubling of letters. We will teach this in Level 2. However, pupils can and should be taught to read words which have double letters.
The rule remains the same - if we see double letters, we only say the sound once.
Tuesday - Thursday
· Continue to revise and help with sentence construction.
